An Oak Tree

John Shuman

I "graduated" from the Oak Tree experience on Nov 11. I loved the hour with Tim talking and preparing for the performance. I was expecting an experience like cold readings of which I have done many. But there were so many different techniques used it was an entirely original experience.I needed to constantly re-adjust to the varied tasks asked of me. The focus required for that was quite demanding but also exhilirating. I will never forget Tim leaving the stage for a minute and my having the theatre to myself. A teacher I had tried to reduce acting to a very basic simplicity- to just being- and that indeed was what that moment was about. Rachel Fowler mentioned wanting to do it again and I concur. As an actor making it feel and appear like the first time is a part of the task and I think it would be interesting to have a second opportunity. I'm sure Tim would not agree but if the show goes on and travels while he will not run out of actors he may run out of those who do not know anything about the play and I will get my chance!
